March 23: I Am Street Fighter (#23)

Nerds! This is your 2-minute warning to prepare that 2 liter Mountain Dew, sunflower seeds, & Hot Pockets because it's time to talk about something you probably spent a lot of time, energy, and quarters playing: The Street Fighter arcade game! Check out the recap of I Am Street Fighter for day 23 of #DocuMarch!

The documentary (originally released as part of the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set) explores the creation, history and fandom of the Street Fighter series.

Can you believe this game is already over 25 years-old? Jesus.

Hardcore fans, prepare to tear up or get goosebumps or however else your body responds to that fuzzy, nostalgic feeling—the documentary is subtitled “25 Years of Inspiration,” after all.

THOUGHTS

THIS. WAS. AWESOME. I'm not even really a fan of the video game (sorry guys, I was a couple years too late to truly fall in love with it), but seeing how devoted people are to something like a video game is a beautiful thing. Clocking in at just over an over, I Am Street Fighter is terrific if you've ever been interested in the history of Capcom, arcades, videogame design, Street Fighter, or just fighting games in general. The filmmakers do a really thorough job of covering the history of the franchise from the beginning, meanwhile showcasing the lives of hundreds of fans in the process.

Honestly - if you've ever been a fan of ANY video game... you'll find yourself akin to the stories of these folks in I Am Street Fighter. Now if someone would just make a movie about Crash Bandicoot or Metal Gear Solid...

TL;DR

The story of Capcom and the 25+ years worth of their rabid fans of the video game Street Fighter.

5 of 5 Stars!

Onwards,
